TPPL Charity Golf day for Arthur Rank

21 June 2023

TPPL recently invited suppliers and customers to participate in the annual TPPL charity golf day, hosted at the beautiful Hanbury Manor Hotel & Country Club, located in Ware, Hertfordshire. Surrounded by 200 acres on beautifully landscaped grounds in Hertfordshire, the facility is one of England’s premier golf clubs. The championship course was originally designed by Harry Vardon and has been sympathetically redesigned by Jack Nicklaus II. At 7,052 yards the par 72 championship course offers a true challenge to any golfer and has played host to numerous European Tour and Seniors Tour events.

Following the recent sad passing of our founding Director, Jim Brennan, Arthur Rank Hospice charity were selected as the chosen beneficiary to be supported by TPPL and the event this year. Jim was cared for by the hospice during his final days, where he was provided exceptional care. The hospice (registered charity: 1133354) was founded in 1981, and supports people living in Cambridgeshire with an advanced serious illness or a life-limiting condition and those in need of end-of-life care.  More than 4,100 patients each year are cared for at the Hospice in Cambridgeshire, the Alan Hudson Day Treatment Centre in Wisbech and in patients’ own homes via the Arthur Rank Community Team. The outstanding care is provided free of charge to patients and their families, meaning fundraising is critical to their existence and continued development.

48 golfers participated in the event, which involved 12 fourball teams, each comprising a female touring golf professional/PGA coach in a unique Pro-Am format. The event incorporated a beat the professional ‘charity’ hole, with all funds raised being donated to Arthur Rank Hospice. Each player entering the charity hole competition made a £20 donation and any players landing closer to the pin than ex-professional golfer, Steve Cipa, on the par-3 fourth hole, won a golf-bundle prize.

All entrants on the charity hole went into a raffle open to TPPL staff and everybody attending the TPPL golf-day. The raffle prize was a week’s exclusive use of a special Spanish Villa belonging to the late Jim Brennan and his wife; Maria. In total £2,500.00 was raised for Arthur Rank Hospice, and one lucky attendee won the raffle prize. One guest commented; “I just wanted to put on record my appreciation for the invite to the TPPL Golf Day at the beautiful Hanbury Manor last Thursday.  It was a proper treat, very well organised and the whole day matched the weather – quality!

As with previous golf days organised by TPPL, the day was coordinated and hosted by Andrew Murray; Founder & Managing Director of Andrew Murray Golf, specialists in organising and hosting premiere corporate golf events.

James Brennan, Managing Director of TPPL said: “we are delighted to support such a worthwhile Charity in memory of our founding Director, and my late father; Jim Brennan. I would like to personally thank every guest for their kind pledges, Jim would be grateful and proud. I’m delighted with the amount we raised on the day, which makes the whole event worthwhile for such a worthy cause as Arthur Rank”.
