We recently held our annual TPPL charity golf day on 3rd October 2025 at the beautiful Woburn Golf Club in Milton Keynes. Some of our guests included invited suppliers to the fleet/materials sector. Additionally, we invited some of our member public sector delegates.
Woburn Abbey and the surrounding Estate provide a stunning backdrop and historical setting for the Golf Club. Having hosted sixty professional tournaments across the Duke’s, Duchess and Marquess courses, Woburn was the first 54 hole venue to have all three of its courses featured in Golf Monthly magazines, Top 100 Courses in the UK and Ireland.
32 golfers participated in the event. This involved 12 fourball teams, playing the strategic team game format of Texas scramble. This celebrated the teamwork we deploy to provide unrivalled service to our customers. The players competed on the popular par 72 Dukes course, where pine, silver birch, and chestnut trees line the fairways. Heather, bracken, and gorse add to the charm of the course. Particularly, they provided some of the natural hazards of each hole. This encouraged players to think tactically and play their way around!
The event incorporated a beat the ex-professional ‘charity’ hole. All entrants on the charity hole donated £20 each to be able to participate, with 8 of they 32 players beating the pro and entered into a prize draw, won by one lucky golfer. We’ve donated all the funds raised from this segment to BillyChip.
John Lomax, our regional Business Development Manager for the North of England and North Wales, nominated this year’s charity. Hence, when asked why he chose BillyChip, he commented, “Billy was a member of my extended family who always helped homeless people as a child. Moreover, he had the idea for the charity before he went travelling to Thailand where he was killed in a motorbike accident. He was 20 years old.” The charity, started by Billy Abernethy-Hope, focused on increasing support and direct donations for the homeless community. It provided a safe and secure way to donate directly to homeless people, encouraging real engagement and human kindness.
Between the golfers involved and a contribution from TPPL, we were able to raise £2000 for BillyChip at the event!
Andrew Murray coordinated and hosted this year’s annual charity golf day, just as he has in previous years. He is the Founder & Managing Director of Andrew Murray Golf, which specialises in organising and hosting premiere corporate golf events.
